I love an old-fashioned Sunday outing. My husband drives while I navigate and knit.  A recent day trip took us across the historic Golden Gate Bridge to Cavallo Point Lodge.

From the late 1800s through Word War II, this land was used as a U.S. Military base called Fort Baker. Now guests can stay in restored officer's residences that surround a large green with wonderful panoramic views.

Gazing off in one direction you see the iconic red-orange, lattice-riveted bridge hovering over the shimmering bay, and in the other the scenic rolling Marin hills. While sitting in one of the many rocking chairs on the deck, I wondered how I could capture my experience of the day in a knitted piece.  

Cavallo Point brings together lattices of lace with a lovely scalloped, garter stitch border. The twelve-stitch, twelve-row repeat is easy to memorize.

This shimmering silk shawl is the perfect wrap for a cool Fall evening.
