Knitty: little purls of wisdom
Title

Since Knitty began, I've been (with one fabulous exception) the sole creator of merchandise in the Knittyshop. I'm particularly proud of the SOCK! and Tejedor/Tejedora pieces, but everyone at Knitty Central agrees it's time we got some new talent in the shop.

Is that talent you? Can you draw? Create unique artwork in Illustrator or Photoshop? Do you have a way with words that could produce a perfect t-shirt worthy slogan? We want to see your work!

Call for entries: artwork for our Knittyshop!

We're looking for beautiful images to put on things in our shop. The things range from things to wear like t-shirts, hoodies and even baby bibs, to mugs, bumper stickers and much more. Take a peek here. We'd love to see designs of your own creation that might be:

  • fun
  • funny
  • inspirational (but not religious)
  • beautiful
  • charming
  • whimsical
  • super cute
  • really cool
  • intelligent

Things we want to see:

  • things that amuse and charm
  • things that look like they belong in the pages of Knitty
  • things that make you smile
  • originality expressed in your own personal style
  • the kind of thing that you know knitters love
  • plays on the Knitty logo
  • 10th anniversary celebratory images

Things we don't want to see:

  • take-offs on other companies' logos or slogans (that's against the Cafepress rules and probably violates copyright. We don't want to go there.)
  • a slogan that you've seen somewhere, anywhere, already
  • something that looks like artwork from another company (watch for color combinations that evoke another company's brand identity)

What kind of images are we looking for?

  • illustration
  • photography
  • typography
  • painting
  • a combination of any of the above
  • what haven't we thought of? show us!

Note that we're using Cafepress, which means we can use as many colors as we wish (we're not screen printing). Please familiarize yourself with the Cafepress requirements for images and formats for the best possible result.

Remuneration: All terms including payment and rights will be discussed and agreed upon individually with the successful candidate(s). All successful artists will be fully credited for their work in the Knittyshop, with links to the website(s) of their choosing.

Here's how to enter:

  • Send an email with the subject "ARTIST entry " to this address. This email should include your full contact details and low-resolution (72dpi) versions of your artwork in JPG format (or PNG, if the design is meant to have a transparent background). Each entrant may send up to 10 images in their entry. One entry per person, please.

We plan to choose one winner of this competition, but reserve the right to choose several. As noted above, compensation will be negotiated directly with the winning candidate(s) before any names are announced. Successful candidates must be able to produce final artwork in high-resolution format to our specifications. Save your original layered files!

All entrants will receive a note with our decision on their entry before the successful candidate(s) is/are announced.

The successful applicant(s) will be chosen in mid-September and contacted by email. Their name(s) will be announced on the KnittyBlog the day their designs are made available in the Knittyshop in November.

Deadline for application: Monday, August 27, 2012 - midnight, PST.
