INTRODUCTION

Ennui

beauty shot

Tangy

You'll get a kick out of this engaging and colorful shawl, ironically named for the feeling of listlessness and tedium that it's sure to banish. Be daring with your color choices or remain comfortably reserved – either way your excitement will grow along with the shawl as you create textured stripes and gently undulating waves.

Worked outward from the top center, it is edged with a perpendicular lace border which is joined as you go and punctuated with playful picots.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

S2PPO: slip 2 sts together purlwise tbl, purl next st, pass 2 slipped sts over st just worked

Cable Cast On: *Insert right needle between the first two stitches on left needle, wrap and bring through. Transfer the newly created stitch onto the left needle. Repeat from * until you have cast on the specified number.

Picot: worked at the beginning of every other RS border row. Using Cable CO method, CO 2 sts, then bind them off (1 st remains on right needle).

Joining Stitch: The border is worked horizontally to the shawl and attached as you go by means of a RS ssk which joins the last border stitch to the next live body stitch. This joining stitch is then slipped in the next WS row.
