INTRODUCTION

Collanne

beauty shotby Rachel Brockman

Piquant

Collanne is named after my grandmother – an affable woman who kindled my creative spirit from a very young age. My grandmother doesn’t knit or crochet – and she never has. That doesn’t mean she didn’t dip her toes into the world of textiles. For years she created beautiful designs while working at the now defunct Blue Bird Silk Mill in York, Pennsylvania. It was then that she began to draw and paint and further explore her creative side – something she has always encouraged me to do. To this day, we continue chatting with one another about our creative ideas and endeavors – so why not name a design after her?

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

2 Color I-Cord Bind-off
Using Yarn MC, cast on 3 sts to left needle.
Alternating MC and CC every 2 rows, work around hem as follows: [sl 3 sts back to left needle, k2, k2tog tbl] until all hem sts have been bound off. Bind off rem 3 I-cord sts.

This shawl is worked from tip to tip, beginning and ending with just two stitches. A lace panel travels upward along one side of this shawl, increasing to the widest point and decreasing to the tip. When CC is introduced on Row 64, change colors when indicated using the intarsia method. After the body of the shawl is complete, stitches along the outer edge of the shawl are picked up and worked in garter stitch for a few rows before binding off using the two-color I-cord method.

Color changes between MC and CC are achieved with the intarsia method. When changing between yarns, bring the new strand up and around the old strand putting a single twist between the strands, preventing any holes from forming in the work.

When working in the Slip Stripe pattern, on Row 4, the k1-wrapped 3x stitch will be worked as one stitch; allowing the wraps to drop and creating an elongated stitch.

Row 1 [RS]: With MC work Row 1 of Lace patt over 33 sts, pm, with CC kfb. 35 sts.
Row 2 [WS]: With CC, purl to m, with MC work Lace patt to end.

When increasing in Slip Stripe pattern, take increased stitches for Rows 1-2 into established pattern (i.e. knit the knits, purl the purls, and slip the slips), but do not work wrapped stitches (knit this stitch instead). Take increased stitches for Rows 3-8 of Slip Stripe pattern in Stockinette stitch. When you have 7 more sts between the edge stitch and the last pattern marker, place a new marker and add in another repeat of the Slip Stripe pattern.
Note: On rows where the Slip Stripe patt is worked in MC, work MC across the entire row, and leave CC hanging. Pick up CC and twist it around MC on the next RS row.

Decrease Section 1
