car go boom, we're okay.

not the news i wanted to report. hub and i had a car accident yesterday. we're okay. the car rolled over and i hope none of you ever have to deal with that. we were out in moments, but that was probably the single scariest thing i've ever experienced.

the subaru forester saved our lives, we're sure of it. hub is freaked, but okay. a few cuts. i'm nicely bruised all over and my left foot decided it wanted a souvenir, so the doc had to dig a little glass and dirt out of it. that's what hurts most now. the insurance company is on the case.

anyway, that's all. we'll know in a few days if our car is fixable. supposedly the tow guys drove it to the yard [like i said, love that subaru]. we still plan to continue our trip on schedule. we're just not sure exactly how. probably a rental.

oy.

---

p.s. hub's just come back from the tow lot. the car was NOT driven there. it's bashed in on the passenger side (that'd be where i was) and the top (where the kayaks were). the doors won't open. still have to wait to see what the adjuster says. what did he rent to get us home? a subaru. that's all we're saying.

Comments:
Getting a rental is an excellent chance to try out something cool, like a mini Cooper, or ultra luxurious, like the Lexus 400h... and if the insurance company is paying for part, why not?

Glad you're okay!!

I'm so glad you're both OK. I hope you can still enjoy your vacation. I hope your foot gets better.

Damn, girl! I'm glad you're ok.

Wheels on the car go round and round not upside down!

Wow! How the heck did you manage to roll it?? But I am glad you guys are all right! A vehicle roll is a very nasty experience.

we were hit on the passenger side and pushed into a little shallowish ditch -- that's how it rolled. otherwise it would have only been a big messy mess on my side.

ow.

Ouch ouch ouch! I am SO glad you're ok. This just solidifies my "let's get a Subaru next time" plans, given the icy roads here in the winter and idiot drivers all around...

Glad you're both ok. Gotta love a good sturdy car. Not many of those made now-a-days.

Holy moly...glad you're both okay.

Oh my GOSH! I'm so happy you and hubby are, relatively, ok. Phew. Those Subaru's are sturdy cars! Take care of yourself and your poor foot!

Glad you survived in one piece! Car accidents are SCARY! I just bought my first ever new car and it's a SUBARU. Thank you for vaildating my choice. Hope you get to make up the vacation!

Oh goodness. I'm so glad you're both alright. Having been the passenger in a spin-out back in January, I know how scary it is to have this happen, and you not being able to do anything to control the car.

Hope that you can enjoy the rest of your vacation.

I'm sorry to hear about the accident, but thank goodness you're both fine.

#1 I am *very* glad to hear you are relatively okay - we were hit head on two days before Xmas in 1999 and it was hellish enough without throwing a cartwheel in there to spice it up.

#2 Subaru's are the most awesome car out there. They'll drive under ANY circumstances AND they corner like they're on rails (*ahem* not that I'D know that personally or anything) ;o) I've owned four and they've only died when hit very, very hard. And, even then, have gone on to drive themselves to the junkyard. Maybe Subaru's have magical properties...?

Good lord, Amy! I'm glad you were in a big and sturdy vehicle and that you are both all right. Whew. (No more bad stuff, OK?)

egads! Yes yes so happy you two are okay and still have all your parts and whatnot. Very sturdy cars indeed. Take care!

Wow. So glad you both are okay!

(BTW, I hit a deer while driving my subaru at 75mph - highway speed limit in NM - and despite $4,000 worth of cosmetic damage I could drive the car another 3 hours home. It still runs like a tank, and I love it! SUBARUS 4EVER!)

Oh merciful Cthulhu! Glad y'all are okay!
(Who was driving? ;) )

Thank goodness you are both ok, what a scary post, I can't imagine actually going through that.

I love Subaru cars too. ;)

Crikey !
Drive carefully and take good care of each other.

Oh my god, girl! I was in an accident where the van rolled, too - so I know exactly how you feel. Scary. I'm so glad you're ok, looking forward to the cruise so I can kiss your poor little foot.

Glad to hear you are ok. Rollovers are really not fun!

Glad to hear that you're okay...how scary!

Yikes! I'm so glad you are both ok.

I read your blog all of the time, and I love knitty. I'm so glad both of you are ok!

Definitely scary! I still shudder when I think of the rollover I went through. My car was totalled and I walked away. The deer somehow managed to walk away too, but he left his tail behind. :0

that's not the first time i have heard of a rolled subaru with all occupants thanking their stars it was a subaru. those things are amazing, that's all i can say. so glad you are okay!

Glad you are ok. You may feel it more in two to three weeks... if you can get in to see a physical therapist or massage therapist over the next week or two, you'll help avoid scar tissue and pinched nerves. Don't mean to scare you - I've been in several accidents and wish I'd known then what I do now, how it can affect your "structure" in the long term... please see a doctor regularly, even if you feel ok in the short term!

Bossiness over, just glad you are both fine! BREATHE!

What Stasia said! am a massage therapist myself and ignored all common sense and here I am a year and a half later still trying to get full use of the arms/neck back on track.
Anyway, soooo glad you and your husband were able to walk away from the wreck. Sending you healing vibes and good rest of your vacation vibes, chica...
all the best,
caroline

Holy crap, Amy. I am so glad you both are OK - and I hope that you can enjoy the rest of your vacation and not let this put a damper on it.

So glad you're okay!

WOW! just glad you're o.k.

Man that's scary, so glad you're both ok!

xxxxx

Ooof! Hope your foot heals quickly!

SO glad that you're okay. Lots of hugs for you on Sunday.

I'm glad you guys are ok!

Oh my goodness. Glad you are okay!

Car accidents are terrifying. I'm glad that you & your hub are ok!! Sending good thoughts your way.

Oh my goodness, Amy. Stay safe, ok!!!

Glad you're all safe Amy! Be safe and good to hear that your trip isn't cut short.

I just got a new car, but my previous was a 1985 Subaru SW. I too loved that car. Great 4WD. It gracefully lived 20 years under my care and is still running...

The only reason I got a new car was for improved safety (car was too old to include air bags), due to an awakening I had when hubby was in a serious accident.

I decided a safe car was one of the best investments I could make. I live in AK, where traction is often an issue. My new car has side air bags plus an electronic traction control system. So improved survivability with improve accident avoidance.

How very sad to total your car and your kayaks at the same time.

Hope you will pamper yourself as you recover and I am very glad you are safe.

I'm so glad you and husband are ok! Hope the insurance takes good care of you.

Wow, I'm really glad you guys are ok. Please take care of yourselves, spoil yourselves, you deserve it. Life is so short (maybe time for some luxurious silk?), and the reminders are scary.

Woah! NOT the update i expected! I'm glad to hear that you both are alright!

Frequent lurker, not so frequent commenter here...

I am soooooo sorry to hear this! I had a similar accident on the freeway about 2 months ago. Except I removed myself from the road before the jack@$$ inevitably hit me. I spun but didn't flip. Since the guy didn't hit me (but would of, I guarantee it), my craptastic insurance co. has found me liable. How they can do that without a police citation is beyond me. Anyway, I'm so, so glad that you're ok. I hope your brusies and scrapes (hubby's too) heal soon. Glad to hear that you're still taking the vacay.

OMG! Glad to hear you're OK and nobody was seriously hurt. What are the odds? I hope the rest of your vacation is restful and enjoyable. Get better soon!!

Yet another reason to love Subaru! I have a Forester and it is worth *every* *penny*! Glad to hear you're relatively unscathed.
