NOW it feels different

Today was a lovely holiday in Canada. Everyone was off, wandering about, except for those poor souls who work in retail. Sorry, guys.

Actually, all weekend was holiday around here. I couldn't take time to celebrate Canada Day, since I'm busy putting the finishing touches on the summer issue. In a strange turn of events, perpetually hard-working hub took more time to relax, garden, kayak and party with the family than I did. I had my head down.

Tomorrow, however, my life will finally be different. The country goes back to work, and so do I, except my commute is now 9 steps from my bed, and the dress code is way casual. So still no holidaying for me just yet, but I no care. This is what I've waited 3 years to do. Go to work for me.

That, my friends, does not suck.

[And when Knitty comes out, any moment now, there will be a tiny break for merriment and silliness and I might even cast on a new sweater to celebrate. That Suss yarn is calling my name and I don't think I can resist much longer.]

P.S. To my American friends, happy 4th tomorrow. Have some apple pie for me, k?

Yay Amy! I'm so glad that you get to do what you love.

I was also reading some of the back issues of knitty and your first spinning attempts reminded me of myself. It's so comforting to know that others went through the same thing.

Happy belated Canada Day!

i've said it before, and i'll say it agai; but CONGRATS!!! it's all official now!
:) YAY YOU!

Hooray for holidays and new issues of knitty! :-)

Congrats on your leap - enjoy!

Congrats on your leapdom. It rocks. And, of course- evry best wish for the very best things at all the right times-

Congratulations, Amy. Let's see -- it's not quite noon on Tuesday, so ... you're working, but you're still in your pajamas, right?

Not quite. Started in my robe, which never feels right for very long, and made a tiny pot of espresso. Had a shower and let the coffee cool [I drink it iced]. Came out, put on something cool and totally unsuitable for the office [shorts and a Knit Big t-shirt, turned the iPod/speaker way up loud and made the coffee.

I could get used to this. :-)))

everyone had monday off, except retail and the university of guelph. we took our stat on friday, just to be different :| the number of confused calls I took at the reception desk at the large animal hospital.. "we're on holiday today, emergencies only" "why?" "i don't know. please call back monday." "but *I*'m on holiday monday!" "but we're open." "WHY?!"

;P

Aaaannnnyhow.. hope you enjoyed your tuesday of 9-steps-to-work :) I'd be more jealous if my office wasn't blissfully air conditioned, and my home a complete sauna...

Congrats! I hope your first day of solely-knitty-work goes wonderfully!!! Can't wait till the summer issue comes out!

There was lots of charred meat (and portobellos) on the bbq, as well as plenty of sangria imbibed over here in Berkeley, CA. Fireworks were a dime a dozen as everyone and their momma decided to set some off--last night and the night before.

Can't wait to hear about the yarn party--i'm planning one for my friend's bday at the end of the month at Article Pract in Oakland, CA. It's a super place and i can't wait! :o)
happy knitting!

Congratulations! A big brave move -- good luck with everything in your new job. I love Knitty and your Interweave Knits column and I know you'll do just great.

Congratulations, Amy! I know how you feel completely, as I quit my corporate job on Monday, had the US holiday off on Tuesday, and everyone went back to work on Wednesday (except me!). After 14 years at work, and nearly 2 years of talking about self-employment, I finally quit to work on getting our house ready to sell to move out of state and start a business near where I grew up in Oregon. You're doing a brave thing, but it's the right thing. I applaud you!
