More on the Habu stainless/silk scarf

For those keeping score, this is not the actual Habu Kushu Kushu pattern, which calls for woolly yarn to be used along with the stainless and silk. For obvious reasons, that's not suitable for me. BTW, that photo is Olga's -- nice work, Olga!

Instead, after seeing the original, I decided to go wool-free. I bought two cones of the silk and stainless, cast on a bunch of stitches on a 6mm needle and knitted. Further details in the movie.

Why did I choose this as my Austin project? It was so hot, I couldn't bear to knit anything more substantial. I'm very pleased with the final result and will likely wear it Harlotting on Friday night.

VERY COOL AMY!!!!

How freakin' cool is that? And I particularly enjoy the musical soundtrack. ;)

Quite cool. :) I particularly like the bind off.....

Wow! One of these days I have to try Habu yarns- this looks amazing. Would just be my thing- especially the castoff. Been there, done a similar thing! :) (I actually made it into a tassel! LOL)

There I was in Habu yarns, staring at a cone of the stainless steel wire, and what did I do? I called over #1 son to show it to him, then I WALKED AWAY! A total failure of vision. Clearly I am not to be trusted.

That's insane. I'm really blown away by how weird that is!

Can't wait to see it in person. Muy interesante.

covetcovetcovet

note to self: get thee back to habu before the move

you are quite amusing, amy...and it looks like a fun little scurf. :)

Love the vid.

That knitting is too cool.

What does it feel like? Besides looking good will it stay warm? I can imagine knitting some decorations with that yarn.

I loved your video! Plus I think you've helped me find a knitting yarn "techie" enough to actually impress my scientist of a father!

this is the Zero Impact scarf -- you might as well be wearing nothing. perfect for hot days.

it's not super soft, but it's not scratchy like a brillo pad [as Ken suggested last night at s&b]. it's just an interesting texture.

U R too cute! (Loved the singing.)

well if that isn't the coolest thing ever! i want one.

Awesome. Cooler than sharks with frickin' lasers. Who cares whether or not you can wear it? It's sculpture.

I love this, where can I buy silk and stainless? I have never heard of it before

What sort of bind offs did you try? I'm curious if you tried the sewn bind off, because in my mind it seems like that might have worked.... Although I will have to wait until I get ahold of some to test that theory.
