because I like my head with the goop on the inside

I'll be wearing a helmet on my Vespa. [I know it's the law but even if it weren't, I'd wear one. I saw a motorcyclist post-accident while i was in Albuquerque, where they have no helmet law. I hope he's okay.]

Anyway, as per usual for me, of course the helmet I fell in love with was discontinued a year ago or so. This happens all the time. I don't know about something I have to have until I can't get it. Using my GoogleFu, I found ONE left, *on sale even* in a Vespa shop in Halifax.

These are the pics the nice Tim sent me from Halifax, just to make sure we were talking about the same animal. Isn't it purty? And so retro-ish.

Until it gets here, I have a perfectly serviceable HJC half helmet left over from my moped days.

2 hours till I pick up the scoot! I feel like a little kid waiting to open my present. I can't sit still!

Are you going to Vespa to Lettuce Knit tonight?

i hope so! if i feel confident enough on it, absolutely. i will likely be practising on it in my neighbourhood all afternoon. :-)

Good call on the Helmet. I live in New Hampshire, where we really stick to the "Live Free or Die" motto. Helmets are optional.

The other day I was out with a friend who rides and races professionally and someone cruised by in shorts, sandals, tshirt, and no helmet. "Oh look," he said, "a squid." I asked him why he had used that term (I was in the Navy and that's a term that's used for sailors a lot). and he told me "That's the sound that they make when they hit the pavement." A little gross, but a lot of truth :D Be safe!

I am so jealous of your Vespa. I'm going to get one eventually.

TRES SEXY HELMET!!!! Can't wait to hear about the Vespa adventures!

Brain buckets are very cool! And that one is lovely to boot!

I only ride a bicycle, but I can't imagine going out without my helmet. Ever.

There's a Vespa store in Halifax? Will you give me the name of it please? I live here and I have been in love with mopeds since I've known what they were. :)

I'm so happy for you! You look so happy and awesome riding it!

When I was still doing endurance bicycling I frequently heard those who didn't wear helmets, both cyclists and motorcyclists, described as "future organ donors."

Crude but unfortunately true way too many times. I've had too many friends escape serious injury simply because they were wearing their cycling helmets to ever go without mine these days.

Isn't Tim great! I don't have a Vespa, but my husband did a few photo shoots with him.

Good for you! I can't believe how many people here in Minnesota ride bikes (motorized or pedal) without helmets. It's just so dangerous. Have fun, but be careful!!!

Congratulations on the new Vespa, and I think it's wonderful how you've blogged about the helmet - it's so important.

I also wanted to say; Please don't underestimate the potential for leg injury on a Vespa! My aunt is an ER doctor on a small island in Greece, where the Vespa reigns supreme as the easiest way to get around town. I've heard her bemoan not only the severity of the typical head injuries sustained on Vespas, but also the sheer volume of foot & knee injuries. Vespas are a blast, but please do be careful.
