don't you call me crazy.

So last night I began the new project. Here are the supplies:

Want a closer look?

Yes, that's correct. Size 0 needles.

Here's what the fabric looks like:

Do you see those perfect, tiny stitches? Well, trust me, they're there.

This is a simple tube, knit as small as the 16" circs would allow, which meant 190 sts. On each side, a faux seam [p1, k1, p1] so that it will lay flat like the inspiration scarf. Both ends will be seamed shut so it will not curl at the bottom, either.

Now all that remains is a year or so of knitting. I can do that. It seems crazy, but it also seems crazy not to even try. It's easy knitting -- I just have to be careful not to drop a stitch, especially at this tender beginning part.

p.s. Dear Skacel,
Whyfor you no make Addi Lace Turbos in size 0? Surely lace yarn requires small needles, and there's no more serious need for a tiny needle with a little grip and perfect scoopy points than this project.

I'll be knitting this for a while, so feel free to get on that development wagon and let me know when they're ready. The regular Turbos will have to do for now, but please...save my sanity. Make size 0s, okay?

Love,
Amy

Meanwhile, last night's Knitty Yarn Roundtable went very, very well. I can say that because the person responsible for the wellness is not me, it's ms Jacquie, hero of my world. She made everything happen including set up and wound balls of yarn [special props to Keri and Sherri on that count] and take down. Thank you, Jacquie! The Purple Purl hostesses were so sweet to us, and it was just an all-around fuzzy kumbaya kind of evening.

We've got three more scheduled: February, April and May. Dates forthcoming soon.

i know the stitches aren't half as tiny but i'm still only half way through the Skating Queen skirt I started over 2 and half years ago! let's race ;) i bet you'd still win!

It'll go faster than you think Amy! I can't wait to see how those colours work up in the fabric.

Just an alternative to the p1, k1, p1 which you can go ahead and ignore, but why don't you slip 1 st at each side EOR. that would make it fold too and might be less obvious. Just a thought. Hope you're well. Enjoy the year of knitting.

In my opinion, smaller Addi Turbo Lace needles totally make sense: wouldn't they be perfect for socks?

Your scarf will be asolutely lovely! I won't call you crazy, 'cause I know I'll end up doing something like that at some point...

You are so right about the small stiches and comfort. I am totally inspired! Out come my zero circs and laceweight yarn. It'll be fun to watch the very tiny stiches grow!

I think what you are doing is awesome. You are totally paving the way for a new movement! Hooray for lovely thin fabric and tiny stitches! I can't wait to see the results, and only hope I will have the fortitude to take your lead and start a similar project of my own.

Good thing you got those new glasses.

P-shaw. I'm going to put up my socks on size 000 on my blog tonight. ;)

thanks for last night! it was definitely kumbaya-sih. looking forward to the next one! xo

No, no, no. Don't you see the label on the Addi packaging? It CLEARLY says that you will "KNIT FASTER" with Addis!

Notice it doesn't say faster than what.

lol Beautiful scarf-to-be, though.

Ahhh I totally want to make a scarf like this. It would be perfect.

For extra-sharp pointed needles in size 0, check out the Knit Picks circs and their Harmony circs. I have a set of KP Options and one set of Harmony tips (gorgeous, btw) -- they all have very nice sharp points. I've never used Addi lace needles, but I know for a fact that the KP needles are sharper than regular Addies. Go, you!

Whoa. Dude. I bow to you. And think good move on getting the new glasses. (I'm starting to think I need new glasses and think I need bifocals. I'm not looking forward to the expense. Ouch.)

I just wanted to share this little tidbit with you. When I turned to my non-knitting husband and told him you were knitting lace yarn with size 0 needles he said, "I know what that means, she's using spider webs to knit spider webs!" Good luck with your tiny project

Hi Amy,

This is actually a comment about your lovely book "No Sheep for you" which I got from my local library - there is a LONG waiting list for it. :)

I love information about textiles, and was glad to finally find out what Tencel was. Just wanted you to know that there are those of us out here who are sensitive to man made fibres (like acrylic, polyester, nylon, etc., but not the ones based on cellulose. They all make me tremendously itchy, and hot, and I cannot stand the feel of them, even in a blend, against my skin. Only natural fibres for me, whether plant or animal.

I'm glad there are lots of choices for both of us. And I am glad to find new sources of both hemp and silk yarns.

Anything you can buy, you can knit better!

I know this is off topic, but when do we get to see the artfibers coat? You promised pictures a loooong time ago.

Crazy, but in a very good, lovable, optimistic way. Mwa!

Holy farsighted cow. I bow to you! I bet the scarf will be great.

Skacel announced a US 0 Lace Turbo was in development late last summer, with an anticipated delivery after Jan 1, 2008. As of today (I called to double check--1/29) they were not yet available.

Soon, dearie....soon!

Where are you at with this? I'm having thoughts and I feel like it's your responsibility to talk me out of them.

I slammed "Friday Night Knitting Club" shut and threw it across the room when she started designing a gown w. laceweight. Crazy. (not you, the non-knitting author who wrote a book about knitting).
