Where I am...

Click for Rochester, Minnesota Forecast

On a secret family mission. There is amateur nursing involved on my part and nothing life threatening, so don't worry. There are ouchies, which is not good, but we'll make the doctor cough up some better painkillers for the next few days. This is my mission.

It is, however, unrealistically cold here. Hub says it's -1 billion. Clearly, however, he is delusional. He has not SEEN cold. Proof:

Minnesotans are amazing. And today, I get to spend a little time with two of my favorites. In fact, they're two of my favorite people in any state. My adorable Gretel hat [in Calmer this time] is no match for this weather, and I have no idea what I was thinking. So I was forced to take drastic steps to survive:

Pink.
Velvet.
Leopard.

Save me.

Keep warm, and best of luck at Mayo! My in-laws are heading there this weekend.

Even the weather in Chicago has been chilly and snowy -- it reminds me of the Minnesota winters of my childhood.

Stay warm, my friend! Hope that whatever you doing in MN is going well. Sending good thoughts your way!!

Just a side note, in California you wouldn't need a hat or ear cozies and I think flights are still pretty cheap within the States... just saying. ;-)

Welcome to Minnesota!

There's nothing like waking up to walk the dog and finding -23F with a windchill of -40F to wake you up in the morning.

Those earmuffs are wonderful!

- Chris (St. Paul, MN)

I love the ear muffs. As a Michiganian, we are spared the coldest of temps by Lake Michigan, but I have 3 pairs in either blah black, or farm hand canvas.
I wish I had some like yours.
Hope the family member is soon better.

I see your
pink
velvet
leopard
and match you with
argyll
purple
fleece
(Sorry, no photo, but it's every bit as stylin')

Perhaps not -1 billion, but in my house we call the -16F temps "freakishly cold". Temps here in MN have now reached the point where, IMO, the actual temp doesn't really matter anymore - it's just plain COLD.

Perhaps you could knit a cover for the pink velvet leopard? Then you could have warmth and the color/fiber of your choice. :)

My hometown!!! Stay warm, and if you find yourself in need of therapeutic bbq, check out John Hardy's. Hope all works out well.

O.o
Those are... um... pretty? Meh, warm is warm, and remember that earrings conduct the cold well. And as someone who has seven in each ear, you do what you have to do to keep warm ears!

Long-time lurker but had to comment now. Hope you're enjoying Rochester! I live here. It hasn't been this cold for this long in a long time. You know it's cold when school is cancelled the night before due to cold temps. Hope everything here goes well!

Welcome to Minnesota! We apologize that you had to come during the coldest cold snap in years. :)

I'm with Bunny Queen. Once the temps drop below -10F, it's just stupidly cold.

Though I do appreciate when the weather forecasters tell me that standing outside with uncovered skin would cause frostbite in less than one minute....especially when I'm supposed to go wait for the bus.

Hope all goes well at Mayo. Are you coming up to the Cities for the Bohus exhibit by any chance?

(Oh, and nice earmuffs!)

As a Minnesotan, I can confidently say that no one is even going to take a second glance at your ear muffs. We all have to do whatever we can to stay warm, and if that involves wrapping pink velvet leopard print earmuffs around out head, then so be it.

Hi Amy,
I got my package in the mail last night. Thanks! I love it.
Also, welcome to my state. I recently moved back to MN after living in Boston for 5 years. This winter is a rude awakening. I call these types of temperatures Beyond-Cold-to-the-Point-of-Pain!
I am not sure how I managed to grow up here and still be such a winter wimp, but I am and this winter is proving especially trying. The upside is that it encourages lots of nights at home, knitting under a quilt.

Welcome to winter in the Upper Midwest...we KNOW cold!
BTW the word verification for this particular comment is "socke"! Too funny!!!

Heh, a tid bit nippy out here, ain't it? These are the temperatures when we all wonder why we are still living here. Though, in my heart of hearts, I kind of love this weather- it makes me feel so tough! :-D

Welcome to Minnesota!

I'm a U of M student so I get to walk around down town Minneapolis for the rest of the winter. Let's hope this is the worst of it. I hope you enjoy MN! If you make it up near St. Paul you should stop by Knit'n from the Heart in Woodbury, my LYS and place of employment ;)

Pink leopard print is much cuter than frostbitten ears! There are times when fashion must take a big back seat to function: minus one billion degree weather is one of these occasions.
